This family owned butchery was opened by husband and wife team Hugo and Siena Roodt in 2002 after parting ways with the original Roodt Broers butcheries and opening their own Roodt Vleis Meat Market, now known as Roodt Meat. The business has since been passed down to their son, and along with his wife they opened the new flagship store in the Terrazzo Centre, Florida Glen.
After one year of opening in the new location they have already won a prestigious Best Business Cleaver Award as being voted one of the best butcheries in South Africa by their customers!
Hugo comes from a long line of family butchers. His grandfather started out in meat trade in 1928. His father and mother in 1944. The Roodt Broers ( Hugo being one of the four brothers ) then opened their first butchery in 1977. Hugo and Siena went on to open their own butchery in 2002 and his son, Jaco, and daughter in law took over in 2023. The Roodt family prides itself on continuing a family legacy for so many decades and the family still use oupa Cornelius Roodt’s famous “Watertand Boerewors” recipe which is more than 95 years old!
Roodt Meat Florida has won the prestigious Cleaver Award for the best butchery in Gauteng on six occasions with four of those occasions being the Platinum Cleaver Award, which is the highest award a butchery can acheive. Roodt Meat also went on to win the Best Business Cleaver Award in 2024 in their new location, showing their passion and dedication in the meat industry and continuously striving to provide their customers with top quality meat and great service.
